Cancelled - Story County Historical Alliance Spring Meeting

Unfortunately the Spring 2020 meeting of the Story County Historical Alliance (April 28th) has been cancelled due to the coronavirus.  Our hosts, the Roland Historical Society, will host the meeting when it is rescheduled for the Fall.

Cancelled - Stay safe.  Save the date!  The Story County Historical Alliance Spring 2020 Meeting will be Tuesday, April 28 at the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.  The Roland Historical Society will be hosting the meeting which begins at 2 p.m.

 This year Roland is celebrating their Sesquicentennial July 3 - 4.  Watch for details on the Roland Sesquicentennial Facebook  page.

Arlen Twedt "The Central Iowa Norwegians" - September 28

Arlen Twedt will be making a 45-minute presentation based on the research from his 2017 book entitled "The Central Iowa Norwegians." The program is on Thursday, September 28th at 7 pm at the Roland Community Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Roland Record Now Available Online!

The Roland Historical Society has made the Roland Record viewable and searchable online for free.  Their microfilms of the Roland Record were digitized by Newspaper Archives and thanks to the Roland Historical Society are freely available.  You can see and search the newspaper here.

The archives begin with the February 28, 1895 issue (shown at the left, click on the picture and then click it again to see a larger version) and continue through March 6, 1975 for a total of 27,367 pages.  Pages can be viewed and saved in PDF format.

These Roland newspapers contain many items from other Story County locations.  For example, Cambridge is mentioned 1,295 times, most of the mentions implying Cambridge, Iowa.
