For several years, the 4-H History Committee has spent time organizing pictures, clippings and other 4-H materials from the past. The story of 4-H in Story County is told by these records. Some of the materials will be on display at the 2017 County Fair on Sunday afternoon, July 23 from 1 to 5 pm in the Extension meeting room.
There is a variety in the collection. It includes notebooks by the decade (starting in the 1920s); Celebrating 75 years of the County Fair (4 notebooks); a 4-H leaders notebook starting in the 1920s; County Historian book (1954-60); 4-H Citizenship Washington Focus; Story County Fair Queens; 4-H Alum of the Year; and Story County 4-H History 1917-2012 (Google “Iowa 4H History by County”.
This year there is a focus on the 50s, 60s, and early 70’s. 4-H officers of those years will be honored at the 4-H Reunion that afternoon at 2:15 pm in Christy 4-H Hall.
The 4-H History Committee includes Evelyn Beavers, JoAnn Blanchard, Marlys Cooper, Mary deBaca, MaryAnn Gardner, Linda Meyers, Carolyn Manning, Ralph Manning, Bob Nervig, and Shirley Pilgrim.

Story City - Scandinavian Days June 2-4, 2017
The museums will be open extended hours during Scandinavian Days this weekend. Stop by and visit us on Saturday between 1-4 pm or Sunday from 1-2:30 pm. On Sunday at 2:30
we will have a special presentation of “Celebrating the Songs of WWI”
with Sylvia Munsen in the Carriage House Museum (619 Grand Avenue).
Follow the history of the war through viewing sheet music covers and
join in singing some of the tunes such as “Smiles,” “Over There,”
Ja-Da,” It’s Long, Long Way to Tipperary” and “For Me and My Gal.” This
presentation is in conjunction with a special exhibit on WWI at the
Carriage House Museum which opened in April for the centennial of the
war. The event is free and open to the public.

Slater New Wing and World War One Exhibit June 30, 2017
The Slater Area Historical Association will be having a opening reception for the new wing of Heritage Hall on Friday, June 30. This will also feature the unveiling of their new exhibit Slater and Story County in the Great War.
And right now we need your help! Stop by now and see the new wing and add to the exhibit with your relative's records, memorabilia, and stories about World War One.

Huxley Historical Society Hamball Meal Fundraiser - April 22, 2017
Just one week until the smell of delicious hamballs and cheesey potatoes is wafting in the air in and around the Nord-Kalsem Shelter 4-7 p.m. April 22nd. Story City - Historical Society Spring Dinner April 27, 2017
Stop by the Carriage House Museum on Thursday April 27th
for the Historical Society's Spring Dinner and Presentation. A
free-will donation WWI themed dinner will be provided, including Army
Goulash, Corn Willy Hash, Hoover Bread, Salvation Army Donuts and a
variety of other wartime desserts.
Following
the meal will be a presentation by museum director Kate Feil on Story
City’s involvement in World War One. The Historical Society’s WWI
exhibit will also be unveiled on the 27th. Stop by to learn more about
Story City’s contribution to WWI!
Dinner will be served from 5:30-6:30pm

Story City - Coffee Tasting Event February 12, 2017
Join us for a sampling of coffees and desserts on Sunday February 12th from 1-3 pm.
You will have the chance to sample 5 flavors of coffee from KaffeGeita.
A variety of mini desserts will be served, all made by local bakers.
Along
with the great coffee and desserts, Nadine Dobbe from NKDesigns will be
demonstrating some of her Scandinavian paper crafts. Nadine will have a
variety of items for sale including woven paper heart baskets, woven
star ornaments, and papirklip. As well as greeting cards that feature
her son Brian's photography. You'll be able to try your hand at a woven
paper heart or a Nordic star.
Plus, live music from local musician Pat Hashman!
